Serenity Burns

I met Phil Burns at ICANN about 6 months ago. One of the nicest and smartest people you would ever want to meet. Phil and I stay in touch via different electronic means (you know us tech geeks, can’t just pick up a phone we have to twitter, skype, facebook etc.) discussing his latest brainchild or awesome new connection. So I wake up today and I go to my Facebook profile and I just about collapse…I am in disbelief of what I am reading. Phil’s 22 month old daughter has Leukemia…it took the wind out of me. Even as I sit here and type I am holding back tears. Phil has eight wonderful kids and has probably the best outlook on life I have ever experienced. Now he and his family are faced with the challenge of helping his daughter beat this terrible cancer. Being a spiritual person, I will put all of my energy into my prayers for Serenity and the Burn’s family and I am requesting that anyone that reads this blog to please donate some cash through the widget in this post to help them out financially.

The Burn’s family needs support right now and we all need to pull together and make it happen. These are good people that are facing a major challenge. So give them your monthly coffee budget or forgo a dinner out so that a family can make sure their little girl will get the care and support she so truly deserves. Phil I love you man and I will pray everyday for your little girl.

Skateboards.com on The 404 Podcast

The 404 Podcast on CNET (listen here) had me on as a guest this morning (8am PST) and we also streamed the event on the front page of Skateboards.com The show was cool, being that I do some radio it was nice to see an actual studio being used for podcast and live streaming as people often forget about sound quality etc. when doing a podcast or live stream. So we talked about Blockbuster putting a bid for Circuit City, the new company could be called CircuitBusters (chat room input here)…we laughed. Then we switched to Botox…now…anyone that knows someone doing this needs to stop them from self mutilation, you are supposed to have wrinkles and laugh lines..they are NORMAL. We checked out some viral video stuff…one in particular of a Rugby player (that’s all the heads up I am giving) and took a look at the hottie Megan Fox who starred in Transformers. Overall the show went incredibly well, with full descriptions of what Skateboards.com , Snowboards.com and Surfboards.com does and how people can enjoy it as much as we enjoy making it…now go and join up.

2007 Grind Out Hunger winner Empire Academy

Grind Out Hunger is really having an impact on the skateboarders and the youth. As I have already mentioned in previous posts, Grind Out Hunger is setup to challenge area elementary, middle and high schools to raise the most pounds (cash counts $1 = $9 worth of food) per student. 2006 champion Aptos High raised 20,000 pounds and equal to about 14lbs per student and won overall poundage, but it was Empire Academy that stepped it up and managed to wrangle 125 pound per student raising a little over 4600 pounds. Empire Academy got creative and did gift wrapping, bake sales and other out of the box ideas. So Second Harvest brought pizza’s and we went and spoke at Empire Academy to award them with their $600 gift certificate to Santa Cruz Skate Shop and answer any questions. The kids were very humble and stoked to have won the challenge…they also stated that in 2008 they are not only going to win the per pound challenge, but the overall total pounds raised. It looks like Aptos High has something to worry about as Empire Academy is looking to take a title Aptos High has held for three years. 2007 Grind Out Hunger raised 130,000 pounds of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank through the local elementary, middle and high schools. Don’t forget to join the Grind Out Hunger Facebook cause.
